More than 90 of Stockholm’s 100 subway stations are decorated with some form of art, earning the subway the nickname ‘the world’s longest art gallery’.

The artwork gives each station its own identity, making it easier for you as a tourist to recognise them. According to SL, which runs the city’s public transport system, the art also makes the stations feel both safer and more attractive, and help turn travel into something more than just moving from one place to another.

SL arranges guided art tours in the subway several times every month, giving you the chance to learn more about the art and the artists behind it. All you need to take the tour is a valid subway ticket.
